- There's no arguing with Betty Speziale. She calls them as
- she sees them, and this August she'll be the first woman ever
- to umpire a Little League world series. A payroll clerk in
- western New York State and mother of two, Speziale, 35, works
- about a dozen games weekly for free -- and has a reputation for
- being tough. "But off the field I'm a girl first," she insists.
- Of her new assignment, she says, "I didn't believe it would
- happen. But when another umpire told me I would never get there,
- I was determined to try."
